Invitation

The Seminar on “Microfluidics and Nanofluidics: From theory to applications ” will be held at the National key Laboratory of Digital Control & System Engineering (DCSELAB), Vietnam National University Hochiminh city (VNU-HCM) on December 28, 2012. The Seminar is mainly organized by the DCSELAB, and supported by Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore; the Faculty of Engineering and Technology - Nong Lam University Hochiminh city and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – University of Technology Hochiminh city; and

Let’s overview what is happening for engineering and technology. One of the interesting technologies emerged in the beginning of the 1980s is Microfluidics. It is used in many applications like inkjet printheads, DNA chips, Lab-on-a-chip technology, biology, micro-thermal technology and so on. It also now becomes one of the widely selected courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Engineering programs at many universities in the worldResearch and education on “Microfluidics and Nanofluidics” have advanced rapidly over the some last decades through many dedicated individuals and teams efforts, with direct impact now extending into various fields of science and engineering. Unfortunately, this might be very new for both Vietnam Universities and industry from theory to applications.

The seminar is intended to provide a forum of Microfluidics and Nanofluidics for researchers and educators from engineering faculties of Technological Universities in Vietnam and to bring together concerned with key issues on Microfluidics and Nanofluidics as:
-      Theory
-      Applications
-      Manufacturing
-      Simulation and Modeling
-      University programs

Plenary Speakers

The seminar will consist of keynote lectures:
1) Professor Nam-Trung Nguyen (Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore) with the titleOptofluidics and micro magnetofluidics: multiphysics of multiple phases at the microscale”
About the speaker:
Nam-Trung Nguyen received his Dip-Ing, Dr Ing and Dr Ing Habil degrees from Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, in 1993, 1997 and 2004, respectively. In 1998, he was a postdoctoral research engineer in the Berkeley Sensor and Actuator Center (University of California at Berkeley, USA). Currently, he is an Associate Professor with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. His research is focused on microfluidics, nanofluidics, micro/nanomachining technologies, micro/nanoscale sience, and instrumentation for biomedical applications. He published over 130 journal papers and filed 8 patents, of which 3 were granted. Among the books he has written, the first and second editions of the bestseller "Fundamentals and Applications of Microfluidics" co-authored with S. Wereley were published in 2002 and 2006, respectively. The second edition of the bestselling book "Micromixer" was recently published by Elsevier. Dr. Nguyen is a Fellow of ASME and a Member of IEEE.
2) Presentation from the Dazztech Solutions – a software company based in Malaysia which is serving the industries and education institutions in most of the countries in South East Asia with title: “FLOW-3D Applications / Demo in Microfluidics”
