Invitation

The International Symposium on “Agricultural & Bio-system Engineering for Asia Sustainability: Opportunity and Challenge (ABEASOC)” will be held at the Nong Lam University, Hochiminh city, Vietnam, on March 29-30, 2012. The symposium is co-organized by the Nong Lam University Hochiminh city, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam, and International Farmers Participation Technical Network – IFPaT, NPO, Japan.

Let’s overview what is happening around us. As already known, the world population is now increasing drastically at the rate of one hundred million per year. In 2011, it exceeded over than seven billion. Due to this drastic increase of world population, two immerging issues of energy and environment are coming out. The food issue may be coming soon if this situation will be constantly continued. As far as we purely follow the ecological system of nature, these issues might not come out, however the human economic production activity brought these issues mentioned above. The global warming is one of the typical examples caused by the huge amount of fossil energy consumption in which the CO2 production is simply increased in proportion to the fossil energy consumption. The harmonic balance between Economy and Environment should be therefore called and promoted as “Sustainable Development”.
Research and education on “Sustainable Development” has advanced rapidly over the some last decades through many dedicated individuals and teams efforts, with direct impact now extending into various fields in both science and engineering. This symposium is continuity with the last workshop was held in Chiang Mai University, Thailand (March 2011).

The symposium is intended to provide a forum for researchers and educators around the world, especially from Asia region, to exchange the state-of-the-art research and development and to bring together agricultural and environmental research and management specialists, and policy makers concerned with key issues on ABEASOC with the main but not limited to the following areas:

    Earth Design
The Earth is only one planet for us human beings. How can we live and take care of the planet depends on our will and decision. Global design of our planet of Earth should be preferably reviewed and reconsidered toward the future.
